La Renaissance Patisserie

They have a terrific, tight-knit team here at La Renaissance (affectionately known as “La Ren”), led by co-owners Sally Charkos and Jean-Michel Raynaud. Their chefs, baristas, kitchen, and floor workers are important members of their team, with some having been with them for over 20 years!

La Renaissance, which has been at The Rocks since 1992, will shortly mark thirty years in this vibrant, historic precinct, which is undoubtedly unique in Sydney. They adore being a part of this neighborhood located in the CBD, which is well preserved and full of detailed corners, artisanal stores, and local history.

In August 2018, La Renaissance inaugurated a second café in the Waterloo Design Centre building, where you can see right into their production kitchen, as well as their amazing assortment of cakes, pastries, savories, and a few additional breakfasts menu items.

Pierre and Sally Charkos launched La Renaissance patisserie in 1974. Pierre was a Paris-trained chef and pâtissier with a passion for his craft that never wavered. Only the highest-quality ingredients were used, and magnificent pastries were made in-house every day to a high standard. On Bastille Day in 1992, they moved the patisserie (affectionately known in-house as “La Ren”) from a small shopfront in East Roseville on Sydney’s North Shore to The Rocks.

One of Sydney’s longest family-owned French patisseries and the first in the Southern Hemisphere to be given the famous Relais Desserts accreditation. Every day they serve freshly baked buttery pastries, steaming coffee and tea, juice, savories, and cakes. If you’re new to Sydney and want to explore Circular Quay and The Rocks, this is a terrific location to recharge and unwind. It’s also a local favorite. Almond croissants and the Monet, a white chocolate mousse cake with lychee jelly, raspberries, and a coconut base, are two of our best-selling goods.

The ham and cheese croissant, a cult favorite, sells out every day as well, with a shredded ham and cheese bechamel inside and on top of the croissant. Yes, sure! Baked until crunchy on the outside but yet soft on the inside…

The setting was pleasant and fresh, with seating in the pavilion, inside, and a great courtyard outdoors. Food is delicious! Exquisitely prepared and excellent on a dish. It was a pleasure to visit because the personnel was very helpful, friendly, and wonderful. Surely you will return every time you’re in the region and cannot suggest it highly enough.
