Frustated by the hassle of having the odd items she purchased online
moved, Sydney digital designer Erin Mulvey figured there must be a better way to move items from A to B while creating a win-win situation for transport providers, customers and online businesses.
"Arranging a courier delivery to move an item in Australia can be notoriously expensive and a time-consuming task," she says over her favourite long black espresso. "It's a hassle to ring transport providers and to know if you're receiving the best quote."
How it Works:
Members of the public who want to move an item, might be a desk, a piano, or an Ebay purchase, place their job for free on the LOADMAX "Get Quotes" page.
Couriers and transport companies bid for your work. Eg it might be that moving your antique mirror from Brisbane to Geelong received a quote after 5 hours for $150, then another transport provider quotes $130 after 9 hours and then finally after 22 hours a bid comes in for $95.
All transport providers are rated by people who have used them before, so you may choose to spend $130 with a provider who has 15 positive endorsements plus who specialises in antiques.
What The Truckies Love About the Site
"Truckies often have spare space in their trucks," says Erin, "in fact usually about 75% of trucks are not full as they travel around Australia."
So this is a great way for truck drivers to fill up more of their space just before they head - whether locally or driving interstate.
And on their return trips, they can earn extra revenue while also providing the customer with a better price because they're going that way anyway.
"For example a removalist company was heading from Brisbane from Sydney and collected a chest of draws from Bonville just outside Coffs Harbour to deliver to the recipient's door, it cost the customer $150 and both parties were very happy.
Other Benefits
The transport industry is the second largest CO2 polluter - although that is including consumer cars - so if tracks driving around Australia are more full, it's good for the environment, right?
