Heartwarming comfort food is chef/owner Annie Di Natale’s vision for this season’s menu. With energy and style amid the cosy terrace atmosphere lit by a crackling fireplace, she’s reintroduced dinners – and is spoiling the locals with some deeply nurturing savoury treats. Wintry delights such as a juicy Pork Belly with Lentils, Star Anise and Soy Glaze, or a more-ish Duck Confit with a big Potato Rosti and Beetroot Relish are slow-cooked to not just enhance the taste, but to prolong the infusion of heat. Yum is the word – with three langorous m’s. Slice’s Osso Bucco is outstanding, while diners looking for something different can enjoy Panfried Quail with Crisp Procuitto, Rocket, Pear and Parmesan. Desserts are crowned by the Chocolate Indulgence, and the coffees, since switching blends to Di Lorenzo, have been flying around the place (if not literally). Great way to start the day with such a beverage accompanied by the Breakfast BLT with Thick Toast, Avocado, Roast Tomatoes, Two (perfectly) Poached Eggs and Crispy Bacon – overall the brekky menu is spot-on. Lunch is an ever-changing chalkboard affair, so life at Slice is never boring, as Annie constantly reinvents delicious dishes to keep the locals’ appetites on their toes! A few visits to Slice and you’ll appreciate why New Woman magazine did a feature on her. What a role model … a talented person running a fantastic business, consistently producing affectionate and satisfying cuisine.
