The Marrickville Street Cultural Festival Sydney NSW Australia

For the seasoned festival-goer, there’s probably not too much that’s different about the Marrickville Festival compared to any other. But for locals, especially local families, it’s a great day out. Marrickville is a thriving multi-cultural community, which was evident in the many different food stalls (German to Vietnamese, and what seemed like everything in between); the political and commercial stalls; and the entertainment.

Sydney Cafes’ favourite stall was the lively crew at [oh crap, the flier I picked up from the dj booth was just for some dance lessons – what was the name of the festival? You took their card…! what a lousy reviewer I am!!] (Yes you are Jane, lucky I grabbed that flyer, it’s in my wallet, oh no, it’s gone – crap – I tidied my desk, now I can’t find anything – what a lousy editor I am – Ed). The only real disappointment of the day was the insipid coffee we first tried, though finding Toby’s Estate coffee soon after was a welcome relief to our tastebuds.

Bands played on three different stages – on Sydney Cafes’ arrival, a 70s cover band rocked on one stage, a choir charmed families on another, and later a young indie band The Bennisons impressed the crowd on the third stage. Face painting and playdoh tables meant the kids looked pretty happy too.

All in all, definitely worth visiting if you’re a local.
