Birthed in Noosa some years ago, Zachary's unique concept of gourmet
pizza in buzzy
cocktail bar surrounds has proved so popular there, that
it's spawned a sparkly new version
in Sydney's ever-gentrifying
Kings Cross.
Zachary's is classy yet casual, an appealing combination of late night
gourmet pizza bar
with great cocktails along with quality wines and
beers. Throwing open its wide glass doors
in September 2004, Zachary's
has slotted into the neighbourhood perfectly, being both
a breezy alternative
to Hugo's Lounge directly across Bayswater Road, and that all-too-rare
decent dining option for people who like to stay out late - and in this
part of town,
that's a lot of people.
They
catch the straight-from-work let's-eat-now crowd at around 6pm, and
from there the vibe
just gets funkier, with good tunes tweaking the
ears and an attractive crowd of diners
creating a backdrop not
unpleasant on the eyes.
Delicious "deluxe pizzas" such as their Thai Prawn with Spanish Onion,
Coriander,
Capsicum and Sweet Chilli ... or the Moroccan Lamb, Spice-Crusted
with Spinach, Caramelised
Onion and Hommus are absolute winners, and there
are still "classic pizzas" (Margarita,
Hawaiian, Pepperoni)
for those whose tastes are timeless, and a strong list of good ol'
"gourmet
pizzas" too (Cajun Chicken, the Vegetable Misto and for wilder
types, the Inferno:
with sambal chilli, jalapeno peppers, salami, onion
and capsicum), and Zachary's even offer
a range of pastas, salads and
snacks to cover all bases.
And
then finally, the cocktails, tasting great either pre-dinner to whet
the appetite,
or enjoyed slowly after dinner when you comfortably realise
that Zachary's might just be
the best hang in the street. Recommended
are the Basil Grande, the Chang Mai and the
very popular Redskin. With
functions a big part of the social horizon, the
other great news
is that Zachary's can accommodate group numbers from
ten people, up to 160.
