| Cherubini
evokes a taste of daylight Italy. Its homely, cosy and yet sunny disposition
(courtesy of Tuscan-yellow interior walls) sets a visual association
overtaken first by the Pavarotti musicscape, and then by the richly
Italian culinary heritage which Aldo Cozzi, his wife Mina and their
son Andrea do so authentically. “Coffee with the angels”
is Cherubini’s catchcry, and indeed, the smooth strength of their
Di Lorenzo blend will have your spirit soaring. The Botticellian cherubs
are looking after diner’s fortunes in other ways too, ‘cos
delicious little packages like the Two Italian Sausages & Two Eggs
cost just nine bucks. A dish called Mina’s Fried Eggs with Sun-dried
Tomato & Mushrooms arrives for six, while Cherubini’s Frittata
Italiana (or Frittata Funghi) opts for the middle ground at just $7.50
of your inner-urban cash. Then there’s the specials such as the
divine Lemon & Herb Chicken Breast & Salad ($8.50) or the slurpy
Zucchini Soup - just like mama’s mama used to make! An old bike
leaning against a street pole, and an ancient mechanic’s garage
across the street add to the sensation we may have woken up in Italy,
so we block out any distractions and order Arancini, Canellone, Caprese,
Lasagna and the Pane E Delizie Alla Griglia to prolong the exquisite
hallucination a little longer. |
